The first unmanned and connected cars are to be seen on the M-11 highway in the spring of 2019, said Alexander Gurko, co-head of the Autonet working group on the margins of the Urban Mobility forum.
“We planned to launch this project at the end of November 2018, but the procedures of the Ministry of Transport and Avtodor were delayed,” Gurko explained. “Thus, we expect that the work is to begin in December of this year. First, the engineering must be achieved, and the cars will start to circulate 4-5 months later.”
For testing the site on the bypass of the Vyshnï Volochek was selected. “A test zone of 15 km was chosen for testing an unmanned and connected electric vehicle on a high-speed highway,” Gurko added.
We are talking about testing "smart" cars and so-called “caravan technologies” on public roads in the framework of the Prime Minister's May order to start testing unmanned vehicles on the M-11 Moscow - St. Petersburg road before November 30, 2018.
